Sources and method
The bubble
The bubble grows while you breathe in and shrinks while you breathe out, each for the time you chose (4, 5 or 6 seconds). It slows down at the start and end of each movement, like a real breath. The time left shows underneath; the session stops on its own at the end.
The pace
Slow breathing at about 6 breaths a minute is studied as resonance frequency breathing: Lehrer P. M. and Gevirtz R., "Heart rate variability biofeedback: how and why does it work?", Frontiers in Psychology, 2014.
A review of the effects of slow breathing: Zaccaro A. et al., "How Breath-Control Can Change Your Life", Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2018.
The "365" routine (3 times a day, 6 breaths a minute, 5 minutes) was popularised in France by the physician David O'Hare.
What this page is not
A breathing exercise, not a medical device. It measures nothing and does not replace a doctor's advice.
