Ingredients

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 200 °C.
  2. White sauce: melt 20 g of butter, add the flour and stir for 1 minute. Whisk in the milk and let it thicken for 3 minutes over low heat. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  3. Lightly butter 8 slices of sandwich bread on one side.
  4. Place 4 slices buttered side down on a baking tray. Spread with a little sauce, add a slice of ham and some cheese.
  5. Top with the other 4 slices, buttered side up, spread with the rest of the sauce and sprinkle with the rest of the cheese.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden on top.

💡 Tip : Top it with a fried egg and it becomes a croque madame.
